The Lake 22 Montage

In March of 2022 we took our very first adventure to Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. To say it was a magical experience would be an understatement. Join us as we reminisce.

We began with an overnight stay in the historical, colonial and majestic Antigua.

Although many of our flights were delayed on the way out, most of us managed to muster the energy for dinner. In the morning, we took this beautiful hike to see the famous, still active, Volcán de Fuego (shown in third column).

After our morning adventure, we boarded the buses and started our trek to Lake Atitlan.

We took a bus from Antigua through Guatemala City and made our way to a dock where we met André (shown right). We carted our luggage onto the boat and made the 20 minute boat ride the Isla Verde, our retreat spot.

Isla Verde wasn’t just any eco-friendly resort. Every element was open aired and beautifully aligned with nature. The first photo is a birds eye view of Isla Verde. It showcases how well it is tucked away. It almost felt as if we were protected at the base of the volcanoes.

From the infamous dock, to the dining area (shown upper right), to the lounge (shown second row), to the hot tub (shown lower left) at the foot of Lake Atitlan, to our outdoor yoga sanctuary (shown bottom row, second from the left) to the patio deck overlooking the lake. There wasn’t one moment taken for granted.

Every day we began with some peaceful reflection by the water. After our morning coffee/tea/fruit we began our first mindful movement session that led us into breakfast. After breakfast the day was ours to fill as we’d like ( see some of our adventures below).

We met back up for lunch in the afternoon followed by a few hours to siesta before meeting back up for our afternoon mindful movement practice.

Once we finished, we had a bit of free time to freshen up before dinner. Dinner was always a delicious three course meal, just perfectly paced to us to enjoy each other’s company.

Once dinner was complete we would make our way to the fire for our evening fire side chats before turning in for the next day’s adventure.

Our adventures. They say a picture doesn’t give it justice.. we agree!

Our first adventure was a trip to San Juan, a women’s weaving collective. The mayan culture, welcoming community and splash of color was unlike anything we have ever seen. The few hours we had, we were able to see a weaving demonstration and walk the town to shop with local vendors directly supporting their families.

Our second adventure was a hike to a 35ft cliff jump followed by a picnic and trip to artisanal town of San Marcos.

The last two rows showcase just a few of the additional adventures we snuck in while we were there.

  • Hiking

  • Horseback riding (not shown)

  • scuba diving (not shown)

  • water skiing

  • zip lining

  • SUP

  • even acoustic evenings from our very talented friends!

The Beauty if Mother Atitlan is impossible to be showcase in a photo. Our hope is that these pictures capture our very first retreat to forever hold in our hearts.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for #thelake22. This trip wouldn’t have been what it was without you.

To everyone who is reading this, we hope gave a little peak into what you can expect during The Hyouman Experience. We can’t wait to adventure with you.
